On December 1st, we had our first “Black Box” show in one of the studios at <a href="http://www.centerpointedanceaz.com"target="_blank">Center Pointe Dance. It was a really great experience- especially since we were able to have <a href="http://www.dulcedancecompany.com"target="_blank">Dulce Dance Company join us in performance. The studio seats about 60 people and is wonderful for those intimate performances where the audience really gets to feel the dance happen close up. Everyone was amazed at how the space transformed from into a make-shift theatre with lighting and a delightful ambiance. Nothing but wonderful feedback was spoken and the audience really liked how the dance companies worked together to create transitions between their pieces, creating a seamless show. Here are some pictures of Dulce Dance warming up prior to the show:

On December 8th, we were a part of <a href="http://www.conderdance.com"target="_blank">Conder Dance’s choreography showcase, Breaking Ground. Unfortunately we were missing one of our star players, Lauren, for our piece The Rush, so Bingle had to step in. It was a wonderful show, and a great way to see what the valley has to offer in terms of new and innovative choreography. Kerry Lengel of the Arizona Republic wrote an article about the event. Check it out <a href="http://www.azcentral.com/ent/calendar/articles/1207choreographers1208.html"target="_blank">here. A review of the dress rehearsal for the show was also written on Cerrin Lanthrop’s personal dance criticism/ discussion blog, <a href="http://movingwords-cerrin.blogspot.com/2007/12/breaking-ground-2007-adequate-show-to.html"target="_blank">Moving Words. Stating there were some issues with group cohesion and spacing with our group- I would agree, only to point out that is was obviously a dress rehearsal and wish she could have reviewed the actual show where many of those elements fell into place. What do you think?
Bing, La, Moe, Gwendy, and Bridge were there- and had a blast even though we never figured out how to get the bobbin to thread in the sewing machine. Bridge made an awesome shirt for Moe for Podcastarama that was hand sewn! Also that evening we got to view animal control come and get a stray pit bull that was lurking by our neighbor’s door above us. It was an adventure indeed.

Yesterday, we had a long day- but it was very productive and fun! First, we rehearsed Gimme and it is starting to look really good. We all think that it is going to be a great way to start out the show. We had a few people who showed up early for class that got to take a sneak peek of it. I think they enjoyed it as well (laughter is always a good sign). After that, Angie taught a wonderful class, and we have 5 additional class members on top of our 32 Crew. We were also able to tackle the rest of The Rush aka Internal Locus and work on many of the transitions between the pieces. It is definitely seaming together! Thanks to Erika who brought the fabulous fruit and veggie trays and everyone else who brought munchies too- it kept us awake and energized throughout the day. Afterwards, we went to Chuy’s and had a nice dinner- thanks to our server who took care of all of us and let us tape up our cards for our show… we might just have to make the Sunday Chuy’s thing a weekly happening.

On Saturday, September 8th- we attended our first Get Out Performing Arts Expo. We didn’t perform, however, we joined alongside many performing groups in the valley to “set up shop” for the day and pass out information about us and our upcoming season. There were so many people that came out to join in the festivities at Scottsdale Center for the Arts- some were so prepared they even brought address labels to put their names on mailing lists for the various groups they were interested. (How smart!) We like to refer to those people as the “pros”. A memorable moment was a woman who came up to Meghan and asked if she “pumped” At first Meghan wasn’t sure what she was saying and asked her to repeat. She clarified to she if she lifted weights because she looked buff. Meghan laughed and said no, but she lifts people…and proceeded to lift Lauren who was standing next to her. Lol. Mike (aka Dizzle), Teal, Andrea, and Gwen also made an appearance and everyone sported their new 32 Flavors Tees. That, and the “32 Flavors gave me candy” stickers that the little kids, and elderly people seemed to enjoy so much! All in all it was a great day.

P.S. and to those who got some of our misprinted brochures…our debut performance is The First Taste not The Fist Taste..haha.
